Dear HMS Band Parents and Guardians,
It’s hard to believe that the end of the semester is just around the corner… and so is our concert! I just wanted to send you a few reminders about the concert. Our concerts will be on Tuesday, December 5th, 2017 at Northeast State’s Regional Center for the Performing Arts. That morning, we will be playing two concerts for Holston Elementary and Holston Middle School/Innovation Academy. These will begin around 8:30am and 9:30am and are these concerts open to the public. For these concerts, students will need to wear their HMS Band t-shirts and blue jeans.
The night performance for friends and family will begin at 6:30pm at Northeast State. The students will need to wear their HMS Band Polos and khaki pants (or skirts for the ladies, of course meeting dress code). The 6th grade students will need to arrive at 6:15 SHARP. Please be on time! The 7th and 8th grade students will need to arrive at Northeast State at 6:50pm that evening. Please be on time! This assures we have time to get everyone on stage and warm-up before the concert begins.
The concerts are a requirement for a grade for the fourth nine weeks grading period and any absence will have to be discussed and excused PRIOR to the concerts. Any unexcused absence will result in a zero for the performance grade for the nine weeks counting 25% of the final grade.
It has been a great school year and I am looking forward to wrapping up 2017 with excellent concerts!
THANKS for your support and helping the HMS Band!
Sullivan Central Area Bands
2017 Citrus Fruit Fundraiser
The annual citrus fruit sale for Sullivan Central High School, Blountville Middle School, and Holston Middle School bands will begin on Wednesday, October 11th. Our supplier will again be Riversweet Citrus of Vero Beach, Florida. This is the company that we have had great success with for many years. You will find their product to be the very best and they are excellent in taking care of any problems that may arise.
You will collect payment for the fruit as you take the orders. All customer checks must be made payable to you. Please write one check or money order to your respective band for the total amount of your order. We cannot deal in cash.
All orders must be turned into your band director by TUESDAY, October 31st!
At the end of the sale, please tally total units sold and total dollars sold on the order form located on the back of the Riversweet brochure. PLEASE PRINT CLEARLY SO ORDERS WILL BE ACCURATE!! The fruit will be delivered to Sullivan Central High School on Wednesday, December 6th. Pick-up is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. and will continue until 6:30 p.m. Make your arrangements now to pick your order up on this day and between these times. We are dealing with a perishable item and prompt delivery is very important.
Be sure to inspect each box of fruit before delivering it to your customer. If it contains any bad pieces, replacements are available at your school’s band office. Replacements will take place through Friday, December 9th. We cannot guarantee replacements after this date. Some of the pieces may appear “green”, but will be ripe on the inside…or will ripen if left in direct sunlight.
Holston Middle students will be competing for top salesperson in each grade level. There will be a 1st place salesperson ($50 check), a 2nd place salesperson ($30 check), and a 3rd place salesperson ($10 check) in each grade level. Awards will be given to students at the December 5th Band Concert.
There will also be a pizza party for all band classes, IF we break last year’s fundraiser of $16,500 in total fruit sales! EVERYONE SELL SOME FRUIT!!!!!
THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING OUR BAND!!
Mr. Jonathan Nichols
Dear HMS Band Parents, Guardians and ESPECIALLY Members,
This letter is to inform you about the Thursday, October 5th HMS football game performance involving all 7th and 8th grade HMS Band Members. ALL BAND MEMBERS NEED TO BE IN THE SULLIVAN CENTRAL FOOTBALL STADIUM, SEATED, AND READY TO PERFORM BY 5:00pm SHARP! It is crucial that you are on time so that we have time to warm-up, tune and practice the National Anthem. Expect us to perform the National Anthem approximately 5 to 10 minutes before kick-off, which is set for 6:00pm.
The band will play pre-game, 1st quarter, 2nd quarter, and 4th quarter. All band members will be off duty during half time and 3rd quarters to allow time for bathroom visits & to visit the concession stand. All band members should plan to bring extra money for the purchase of food and drink. All band members will be allowed into the game for no charge. NO STUDENT WILL BE PERMITTED OUTSIDE OF THE FOOTBALL STADIUM GATED AREA FOR ANY REASON AT ANY TIME. This is to ensure the safety of all of our members during this game. The game should be wrapping up around 8:00pm. Parents please be on time to pick up your band member! Please have students send you a text or a brief call during the 4th quarter to alert you of the game coming to an end. Again, no one should leave the gates until parents are there for pick-up.
We will wear our band T’s and jeans…if you do not own last year’s T shirt, please wear HMS colors of blue, orange or white! It might be a good idea to bring along a jacket for the cooler temperatures in the evening.
ABSOLUTELY all school rules are in effect for this game. It is so important to understand our role as ambassadors for our HMS community at this game. Good sportsmanship, musicianship, and attitude is expected at this game. Let’s all do our absolutely very best for our team and cheer them on to a victory!
As always, if an absence from this game is required – I’ll need a note from parents BEFORE Thursday’s game explaining the nature of the absence. If no note is received, your attendance is mandatory and expected. We NEED our members there – EVERYONE has an important part!
If you own your own wire music stand, PLEASE bring it! We will need as many as possible for this performance!
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the HMS Band office at 423.354.1513 or email email@example.com
Can’t wait to have some fun and play some fun tunes on Thursday, October 5th with our awesome HMS Band!
