A little about Mr. Nichols...

Hello!
My name is Mr. Jonathan Nichols and the 2018 - 2019 school year will be my fifteenth year teaching, my thirteenth year serving as Director of Bands at Holston Middle School/Innovation Academy! We have great musicians in our band consistently earning spots in the Sullivan County Honors Band, ETSBOA Regional Honors Band, and bringing home awards from the ETSBOA's Solo & Ensemble Festival. The HMS/IA Band is a vital part of our school's culture - right at 40% of the student population participates in the program!
My wife, Amy, is also a teacher. She teaches fifth grade science and social studies at Blountville Middle School. We will celebrate eight years of marriage in March of 2019! She is a huge fan of the HMS band - she played the clarinet in her middle school band.
I graduated from East Tennessee State University in 2003 with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education. I also just completed my Master's degree in Educational Leadership at Carson-Newman in May of 2017. I student-taught at Unicoi County High/Middle Schools and was so fortunate to be hired by Unicoi County at the end of my student-teacher assignment. I taught middle school general music, middle school band, and assisted with the high school band in Unicoi County for two years before I was hired in Sullivan County in 2005 as the Director of Bands for Holston Middle School. The greatest aspect of my job is getting to work everyday with beginning musicians! It is such an important and exciting time in a musician's life - I feel honored to get lead a group of young people in this journey!
